Remember a few weeks back when I was silly-nuts for that Midlake tune off their new album and then someone threw a tennis ball at my ass while I was listening to it? Well, I've got the space now to post it up here. The song, not my ass. No room for that. Stop staring. I'm blogging for two now.
So, here's the song:
Midlake - "Roscoe"
And via GvB, here's the video. I can let the obsession resume while my ass grows, free of tennis ball fuzz:
Does anyone else think that the video really works with this song? There's something a little timeless and unnerving about the song. What's that phrase? Terrible beauty. Those high rises climbing toward the sky have a similar sort of terrible beauty. I can't explain it. This footage is just really suited for the song. I'm sure I'll watch it more over the next few days, I'll let you know if I think of anything more. I know I'm picking up Van Occupanther. I've been digging on their last LP, Bamnan and Silvercork. This new stuff that I've heard blows B&S out of the water.
What say the rest of you? Let your inner film student out.
I mean, there's the obvious connections lyrically--construction, progress, things drastically changing in our absence. But there's also a tonal connection that I can't quite express.

Yeah, it's interesting. That was my first time hearing the song, so I didn't pick up on anything but it does work with those images. Maybe not just lyrically but tonally, in some sort of weird alchemy.

Turns out the video was done by a fan, not the band. It's still cool.
Carry on.
