The September, October, and November Mixes
Bandwidth shmandwidth. Let's do this.
Below the fold you'll find a representation of the last three months' playlists. I've tried to assemble each of them to be self-contained and my hope is you'll try them out in that context. But, really, when you're trying to put three of these things together at once over a holiday, the science ain't so scientific. And your mileage may vary, anyway, as the kids say.
Someone else's quote slightly out of context: "If music be the food of love, play on / Give me excess of it . . ." The rest of that quote has the Duke explaining that he wants so much because he never wants to love again. But we know how things turn out for the Duke. There is no surfeit, with music or with love.
Unlike a pecan pie, music can always find those hidden nooks in our souls, those crannies in our hearts. There's always room for more. And the great thing about this age is that it's become far easier to expose ourselves to more and more. And rarely feel dizzy or nauseous.
I hope you'll take the opportunity to try and reach that impossible surfeit yourselves.
I won't belabor the point. If you've been coming around Creekside awhile, you know that if the site has any kind of telos it's for people to experience and enjoy those pieces of culture that have brought me pleasure. And, as always, if you want to drop a comment about what you've enjoyed or--especially--what I've overlooked, well, that'd be pretty cool.
Most of what you'll find below is from relatively recent releases, but you'll also find some harkening back thrown in the mixes: Prince, live Smashing Pumpkins, The Black Crowes, Pavement, Van Morrison, Public Enemy, Pixies. There's also some stuff I've missed from the last couple years: Pernice Brothers, Owsley, Lifter Puller (pre-Hold Steady).
I'd direct you to particular tracks, but this time I think I just hope you'll give it all a shake. The stuff from this year--Ray LaMontagne, Lilys, Margot, The Slip--is likely to all get revisited on this site in the next few weeks anyway. I guess if I had to really direct your attention to one track I'd say dig that +/- track in November's lead-off position. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a gimmick in a song and those stops are irresistible.
For now, though, please help yourselves to whatever trips your fancy. Everything's in mp3 format, and there's ZIP files for your ease and comfort.
Enjoy, but please continue to support these artists. Go see shows, buy the merchandise. If you like a band you hear here, go look for more, and buy their records. I can recommend the full-length from each of these groups. If you need another taste from any of them, just let me know. Obviously, I'm happy to oblige.

Apologies for surfeit and telos. I was a little drunk last night.
Also, two clarifications: 1) I know that I put "1000 Umbrellas" in August's mix, too. Dang. In my defense, I still really like that song and did in September. 2) The Wilco track in September is off the live album, not Ghost.

I listened to a couple months yesterday. The mixes were actually perfect for work. Thanks for posting them. Is a Shmandwidth a meal?
